an interpreter and provisions have been obtained Acerbi leaves Tornio
for Ylitornio on 17th June. The road from Tornio to Ylitornio is quite
good throughout, there is no need for boat transport. The journey is done
in a peasant cart and a chaise drawn by one horse.
The riverside views do not greatly impress Acerbi. The road follows the
river Tornionjoki all the way. The sun shining all through the night makes
the night time travel extremely pleasant. Also the big salmon catch of
the fishermen at the rapids Vuennonkoski add to the feelings of pleasure.
When in Ylitornio Acerbi finds accommodation at the hospitable vicarage
of vicar Svanberg. The trip to Aavasaksa marks the highlight of the stay
in Ylitornio.
