Muonionniska

M he journey from Kolari to Muonionnniska takes more than two days. The party arrives in Muonio on 28th June. Four men have been needed to punt the boat during the journey. Acerbi notes that not even the five horses of the inn would have made it through the strains of the journey. Shooting the last in the chain of rapids, Äijäkoski, could be only made by two men: an old man of over 70 years of age and a son of his, under 30 years of age.

Strix Lapponicus In Muonio Acerbi's party meets an enlightened priest called Mathias Kohlström who is rather shabby by appearance. He has guided many explorers and is a talented observer of nature. He takes the party to the fells along the river Jerisjoki. They climb the fell Keimiötunturi and admire the partly still snow-covered slopes of the fell Pallastunturi. They are told stories about the incredible fish catches in the lakes surrounding the fells.
