DET NORDLIGE NORGE 1795 The data for the map of Pontoppidan was gathered in 1752-1766 in connection with the specification of boundaries of Sweden and Norway. This map represents Northern Norway with accuracy and more suggestively depicting the entire North Calotte region. The cartouche incorporates symbols of sources of livelihood in the region. Christian Jochum Pontoppidan (1739-1807) was a Danish soldier, later appointed Royal Cartographer. He created informative and elegant maps of Scandinavia.
